DE LOS ALGUACILES, PORTEROS, Y OTROS OFICIALES de la Casa.\" follow. Both boundaries were read on the leaves, and the opening heading spells the número out, \"TÍTULO DIEZ\". The word \"propietario\" in ley xiij is the código conceding that the office is owned: the escribanía de cámara of the Casa is a saleable property whose holder names his own deputy, and this título neither says how it is acquired nor what it costs. No law in the group states a salary for any of the four notaries; what the título states in detail is what they might charge the parties, which occupies eleven further laws and an arancel. The número of four is never enacted, only mentioned. The monopoly of ley j, read from the litigant's side, means that a merchant with a claim against the fleet had one place to take it and no choice of notary. The office that spreads the suits across the four escribanías, the Repartidor, was ordered twenty-one years later, in 1575, and the reason ley xj gives for it is not the litigant's but the notary's: \"para que igualmente se haga el repartimiento, y ningun Escribano pueda ser defraudado\".",

The ordinances of the Casa cited in the margins — ordinance 18, ordinance 67, ordinance 71 — were not opened and nothing is asserted about their texts. The dates in the margins are the dates as this impression prints them and were not collated against the 1681 first impression, which this corpus also holds. What this entry adds is the nine laws that constitute it, read from the leaf and quoted at claim level, which turn out to be a specific design rather than a description: a double monopoly that bars outside notaries from the Casa and bars the Casa from adding notaries of its own; the presentations, oaths and bonds of the generals, admirals and veedores the crown appointed to the Carrera routed through one office, with the fleet's own books fed from that office's certificate; a list of the suits a private party may bring against the fleet's command and against the Avería; and a law of 1568 that lets a notary refuse his own President a case file until the President signs for it. This entry prints beside those the things a flattering account would drop: that the office is owned and the law says so, that no salary is stated for any of the four while eleven later laws and an arancel price what they might take from litigants, and that the número of four is mentioned twice and enacted nowhere.",
