A 2024 review reconstructs the plague of 1742-1743 spreading in sequence along the Camino Real between Buenos Aires and Lima: rising deaths at Lujan and Santa Fe in late 1741, a peak of 128 deaths at Buenos Aires in June 1742, 160 fatalities at Purisima Concepcion de los Pampas, and one of the region's severest crises at Cordoba, marked by a sharp increase in burials. Bishop Jose de Peralta reported in 1743 that his diocese's population would have nearly doubled but for the mortality.",
